I feel my new blogsite deserves some explaining. Bar M U you ask? What on earth is she thinking? Well, after a number of discussions on remaining anonymous in the blogging world, I decided that adding safety precautions couldn't hurt. To understand my new blog title, you need to understand a little about me. I grew up in the middle of the city. The times I spent on my cousin's farm are some of my fondest memories. Later in my life I became determined that I would raise my own kids that way - something about the idea of crops and animals makes me feel so happy. In words, it's hard to paint a picture of my dreams so here are some photos that set the scene...

If you read Sunset magazine you will get the idea of what I'm talking about - those articles about big-city executives leaving the fast lane and buying an old farm somewhere to raise veggies, pick fruit from their orchards, make cheese from their goat's milk and gather eggs from their chickens each morning. If you've seen Pride and Prejudice (with Kiera Knightly) think of the setting of her family's home: ducks and chickens wandering around the yard, laundry out on the line to dry, pigs and cows and draft horses, piles of straw, moss growing on the stone hedges. This is what my dreams are made of. To me, "farm girl" is the nicest compliment.

Finally back to Bar M U, or "baa-ram-ewe" as it's put a little more clearly. I fell in love with the movie, BABE - yes, the one about a pig and a bunch of animals. Something in that movie about the farmer's quiet little life struck me! No, I don't believe in talking animals, but I do believe that my life will be richer if I can have a little farm like that one. So Bar M U is sort of a little catch phrase for my dreams....enjoy as I post their progress.

*10 Years Ago: I was a nanny in Connecticut, riding the train into NYC on Saturdays to explore.

*Things on my to-do list today: put the laundry away, sweep the floor, Wednesdays are usually clean the bathroom days, collect things for D.I., cook dinner

*What I would do if I were suddenly made a billionaire: Buy a farm or ranch somewhere secluded with trees, rolling hills, and a stream running through it.

*3 of my bad habits: 1. choosing what I should cook for dinner - it takes me so long to decide that I often forfeit the convenience of the crock pot 2. I am great at doing laundry and getting it folded, but it often sits in the basket for awhile before I put it away 3. Because our yard and landscaping is "in the works" I seldom get outside for fresh air in all the muck and mud. Being a hermit is not healthy and only leads to a emotional downward spiral :(

*3 Jobs that I have had: 1. Movie theatre concession stand. I was so embarrassed of being seen in my neon apron, visor and bowtie that I would duck under the counter to hide when I saw someone I knew. 2. Cookie/Coffee shop - I had fun working with all my friends and got real good at frosting cookies. At one time I knew what all the fancy names meant for coffees, but have since forgotten since I don't indulge. 3. USU Bookstore - over Christmas break I stocked the bookstore (hard labor!) and got a sweet discount on my textbooks for the following semester.

5 Things people don't know about me: 1. I love reality TV - A.I. and survivor. We only get 3 fuzzy stations on our tv so my choices are kind of limited :) 2. I have to limit my time on the computer or I would spend way too much time on it 3. I want to own and milk goats, crazy I know 4. During the winter months I make the most of every cent spent my netflix subscription 5. Speaking of making pennies squeak, I am religious about shopping ads and stocking up on sales. I get a buzz when I look at total "Money Saved Today" on my receipt.

America: The hope of the earth

I used to be pretty ignorant about political issues - growing up, I couldn't even tell you the difference between Republicans and Democrats. My parents were never really gung-ho for either party, which gave me the advantage of growing up without biases. I am not posting this link to persuade you one way or the other. I respect diversity in thought, but aren't inviting any of you to make this a "comment war." Yes this speech is long, but you may learn a few things if you read on and maybe you'll even find a few of your hot/cold button issues...
